Psychotherapy is offered to both individuals with a diagnosis as well as individuals without a diagnosable condition. Anyone who wants to bring a change in their life or going through a difficult time could seek help. Samtal offers you a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory space where you can talk about your experiences and enhance your ability to deal with either symptoms or challenges of daily life or both.

Online therapy has seen an upswing since COVID-19 providing both freedom of choice and enhanced accessibility to psychological services across the globe. So, having it online could be more convenient and affordable, providing you the opportunity to reach out to a therapist at a time frame that suits you better.

A usual session is about 45 to 60 minutes long. But in some cases, like for group sessions or screening/assessments, it can take upto 90 minutes.

There is generally no set time frame for therapy even though 10-15 sessions could be considered as an average. Sessions could last for weeks, months, or even more depending on the severity and the need. For some, only a handful of sessions could be sufficient while others may require more. A lengthier course of therapy is usually for clients who present with long-standing issues.

A psychologist specialises in the study of behaviour and mental processes as well in the study, diagnosis and non-pharmacological treatment such as psychotherapy to treat mental health issues. Whereas a psychiatrist specialises in the study, diagnosis, and pharmacological treatment of mental health issues.

Maintaining confidentiality is one of the most important aspects in therapy. So yes, it is a safe, non-judgemental and non-discriminatory space for you to have a conversation. Only in case of probable self-harm or probable danger to others, safety of the client or significant others will be prioritised over confidentiality and hence it could be breached.

There can be different symptoms to look at how you are doing or if you are improving, but it is also about checking with you directly about how you feel about the sessions and if there are areas which I can improve on in a session. When you slowly start to feel better and look forward to a session, have a feeling of being understood, are generally more satisfied with things in your life, and are experiencing a change in how you look at the world, it is all a sign of progress. But remember, it’s not an easy process, and so, it’s normal to feel a lot simultaneously sometimes. If that happens, you can always talk about how well you’re taking change and whether something is working for you or not.
